APHL is recruiting a Lead Specialist in Blood Lead Testing for Tanzania ($60k-$70k USD). Expertise in toxicology, ICP-MS, GFAAS, and public health QMS required.

Position Summary

The Lead Specialist will support APHL laboratory systems strengthening work in Tanzania under a CDC Foundation grant. This multi-year project aims to establish testing capacity for blood lead level testing across the country. Pay range: $60,000 – $70,000 USD annually.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance in designing, implementing, and monitoring strategies to strengthen the public health laboratory network
  • Provide laboratory training and mentorship on toxicology and blood lead level surveillance
  • Conduct assessments of laboratories and assess readiness for testing
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), validation and verification studies, and QMS
  • Support procurement of laboratory equipment and quality assurance materials

Qualifications & Standards

  • Advanced degree in medical laboratory science, analytical chemistry, or toxicology
  • Six years plus experience in clinical diagnostic testing or research laboratories
  • Demonstrated experience with ICP-MS and/or GFAAS platforms for metal analysis
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
